Standing Before Kings: Recovering the Dignity of our Work
Working with a Calling
Working for Joy
Working in Frustration
In the Book of Proverbs we read: "Do you see a man skillful in his work?
He will stand before kings." Work is an important part of a man’s
identity. What we do shapes a large part of how we understand who we are
and why we are here. And yet, it is challenging for each of us to find
dignity in our work. Our sense of calling is easily lost amidst the pace
of daily life and the pressure of making ends meet. Amidst the
frustrations of work we lose perspective. We forget that our work is
kingly work which reflects the work of God Himself. We forget that our
humanity is honored in every creative endeavor we pursue.
Our retreat speaker, Thom Smith, will help us recover a vision for living skillfully in God’s world. Thom has worked creation from different angles - telling stories, shepherding souls, sculpting clay, building his home, planting a garden, painting a landscape, writing songs and poems. Whether a day laborer or a day trader, a teacher or a retiree, a salesman or a student, Thom can help each of us better reflect on our present calling.
We will stay at the beautiful Knolls resort, situated on the Lake of the Ozarks.
