All Jesus did that day was tell stories—a long storytelling afternoon. His storytelling fulfilled the prophecy:
I will open my mouth and tell stories;
I will bring out into the open
things hidden since the world's first day.
(Matthew 13:34)

Do you remember being a child and sitting on the floor of your classroom while the teacher opened a new book and said, “Let me tell you a story”? Her words worked their magic, opening up new worlds and possibilities, and giving you both roots and wings. Well, those days are back. Sort of.
We are beginning a book club at Christ Our King. Every two months we’ll study a different one-read selection and at the end of the reading period, we’ll come together for food and drink and a discussion of the theme. After the book selection is announced, interested participants can read at their leisure. Then, we will meet for a guided discussion of the book’s key ideas in an evening that promises to be both educational and inspirational.
The French novelist, Marcel Proust, once said that the “the journey of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes; it is in seeing with new eyes.” As we open up the pages of these great books, as we dip our hearts and minds into the water of words, we are seeking to become greater men and women who see the world differently – catching a sight of God, learning to live better lives, finding the wisdom that has been hidden “since the world’s first day.”
If don’t get around to reading the book selection- come anyway. You’ll still enjoy an evening of conversation among friends, a bit of good sense and a taste of fine food and drink. Also, feel free to invite others outside of our church to participate. This is an opportunity for us to practice hospitality and introduce others to life in Christ’s community.
